Welcome from the Directors

We are feeling immense gratitude that you have chosen to celebrate our 10 year anniversary with us by attending Fling! It has been a special process of looking back on the last ten years and seeing how this company has grown and changed alongside the SLC dance community. We started creating work together for school and for fun. In 2014, we could not have imagined the gift of still being in the studio together in 2024. This is for the over 25 fish (company members) who have collaborated; for our families who have attended all the shows; for our mentors; and for our audiences, our friends, our technical crew. We look forward to celebrating 10 more and being awestruck by it in 2034.

On behalf of all the fish past & present,
Cat Kamrath Monson, Daniel Do, & Megan O’Brien

Swims Our Blood (2014)

Before there were official fish names. Before the company was named. Before we knew we would still be making work together 10 years later. There was Swims Our Blood. Originally presented for the University of Utah’s Department of Modern Dance Graduate Salon in December 2014 and danced by Maddie Andersen, Marty Buhler, Daniel Do, Tori Duhaime, Luciana Johnson, and Megan O’Brien.

The 2024 reprise was rehearsal directed by Megan O’Brien and contains creative contributions by the new cast - Bayley as Maddie/Megan, Samantha as Tori, Morgan as Marty, Masio as Daniel, and Alicia as Luciana.

“I just want to look for the softest grass I can find, lay down in it and look at the sky for a very very very long time.”

For my mom, my dad, my sister, and my two brothers. For my friends and for my chronically ill companions. Last but not least, for 15 year old Megan.

An extended pause.

I want to give my deepest gratitude to the dancers for their contributions, patience, and laughs that were shared during this special process.
